Shree Swami Samarth at Rameshwaram
Om Jai Sai Ram! It is only by the grace of Sadguru that one get's to hear his leelas and to sing them. Lord Dattatreya's ways are unfathomable, and what can a dullard like me understand or talk about them. However when I submit the ego before the lotus feet of Sriguru, he himself takes up the task of relating his life story, for I am merely an instrument in his hands.Victory be unto the Sadguru. Let me now relate a leela of Shree Swami Samartha Maharaj of Akkalkot, the glorious incarnation of Lord Dattatreya. He the purest of the pure, I beseech him to help me sing his glory.
That Rameshwaram is holy, is accepted beyond doubt. It was here that Lord Rama established the twelfth Jyotirlinga (Linga of Light) for worshipping Lord Shiva. The foremost of the Ragu's made this a holy place of Pilgrimage as the sands of this place kissed his lotus feet.
The worshipper at Rameshwaram used to extort money from piligrims for them to take bath in the holy Koti Khoop Tirtha. This was resented by some.
To test him, came none other than Lord Dattatreya in the form of Shree Swami Samarth Maharaj. However the greedy worshipper did not recognize the true divinity of Swami Maharaj and refused to let him into the Koti khoop tirtha without money. To this the Lord smiled and went away.
Later the worshipper to his dismay found foul smelling worms in the waters. Quite perplexed by the incident, he went to the then Shankaracharya of Sringeri. The great Jagadguru went into Samadhi and told the worshipper, he had not allowed an ascetic who was none other than an incarnation of Lord Dattatreya.
The remourseful worshipper, went and fell at the lotus feet of Swami Maharaj and allowed him inside the waters. The waters retained their purity, no more were the worms to be seen.
Such is the greatness of Lord Dattatreya, the purest of pure. All things are rendered pure, but by his grace.
Om Shree Swami Samarth Maharaj Ki Jai!
Om Shree Sainath Maharaj Ki Jai!
Avadhuta Chintana Shree Gurudeva Datta! Shree Gurudeva Datta! Shree Gurudeva Datta!
