Kabir
Found in the Bhagirati by Tamal
You among saints a jewel
Try whatever the Mullahs might
They could not find you a name right
The Almighty's name came up every time
To abandon you was the Mullah's claim
Al-Kabir cannot be a person's name
The very idea they said is insane
The weaver refused to let go
With the name of Kabir you grew
You wore a tilak on your young forehead
Much to the consternation of the Mosque's head
Allah and Ram distinction there was none
You said all are his children and god is one
Your longing for god drove you to the river
To see the divine feet of Swami Ramanand, of bliss the bestower
You heard him chant the name of Rama
Took it to your heart and fell at your deva(Lord)
Accepted a Yavana as a disciple
Other disciples did him despise
The lord does not come to you by ringing bells
Or by running to the Mosque listening to the Mullah's yells
Your words angered the Hindu and Yavana alike
Your concept of unity everyone did dislike
They asked you what is your religion
You replied all are of divine origin
Sikandar Lodi many a complaints received
Decided to get you killed
The raging elephant tried to run over
Saw many lions and ran away with fear
A house with you was burnt
With the name of Rama, unscathed you came out
They tried to in the river drown
You walked on the water without a frown
Sikandar realized your greatness
Begged for your forgiveness
You weaved with the instrument called Jnana (Knowledge)
With the thread called Bhakthi (Devotion)
And you produced the fine cloth called Enlightenment
You were always filled with happiness and fulfillment
Many were your devotees in number
Both Hindus and Yavanas together
When you left the mortal frame
With grief your devotees came
To bury it or to burn
The fight of the devotees had begun
You told them not to your words forget
You made them, their actions regret
Instead of your body, flowers they found
Hindus and Yavanas into half flowers divided
One half was burnt
The other half was buried
You are no doubt my Sadurunath
Says Sharath, the child of Sainath
May of your lotus feet the grace
Be ever be upon human race
Yours is the true religion
Everything else is people's opinion
Humanity is the religion of everyone
There is one spirit and god is one
