Shree Krishna Janmashtami

He who is boundless and timeless
Was bound in the womb of an imprisoned princess

He by whose radiance shine the sun, moon and the Stars
Was born on Earth when the Sun had set

His dusky face radiated light all around
All animals bathed in his immeasurable love

Unable to contain their emotions
The clouds burst forth into Thunderous showers

The Yamuna sensing the Lord's presence
Overflowed towards Mathura in  spate

He who wills creation, appeared On the 8th day
When the star Rohini was ascendent

The birds seem to sing in joyous abandon
The trees seemed to dance to their tunes

All animals felt a benign energy pulsating through their bodies
They came towards the Prison to catch a glimpse of their creator

The noble father longed to hold his son and caress him
Off fell the chains which from doing so had prevented him!

The alert guards slept as though in a trance
Indeed what is impossible for him who makes the cosmos dance!

The lord who pervades everything was wrapped in a blanket
And was taken in a basket atop Vasudeva's head

The Yamuna in spate wanted to touch the Lord's feet
Observing Vasudeva's discomfiture the Lord touched Yamuna with his feet

Satiated, She who quenches everyone's thirst parted ways
And Vasudeva prepared to go to the house of Nanda

Brija still lay far away and the rain poured in real earnest
The king of Serpents came to shield the lord and make him comfortable

He who is the shelter for all creation was sheltered by the giant snake
Brija lay on the other side, with eager anticipation to welcome the Lord
